OXYGEN PREMIERES NEW DOCU-SERIES “I’M HAVING THEIR BABY” ON MONDAY, JULY 23 AT 11PM ET/PT.
The typical adoption story you hear about is from the childless couple that desperately wants to share their love with a child, or the adult child that grew up thinking they weren’t wanted. This story is different. Unique. And full of extreme emotion. It’s the story of the Moms who give up their children, the complexity of their lives, and most of all their courage to be selfless (or not so selfless in some cases) in the quest for bright futures of their babies.
I’m Having Their Baby, is a 6 part docu-series following 12 birth mothers and the guts it takes to give up your child for adoption. In each hour long episode you meet 2 mothers that have already made their decisions to work with an adoption agency. Each have unique reasons and extreme emotional decisions that vacillate between the good, bad, and the ugly side of adoption. Get to know the adoptive parents, the birth fathers, and even some of the birth families as they chart their course for the future.
One Decision can change your future. And the lives of others.
No judgement. No agenda. Just plain hard decisions for your future and that of your child. WWJD ? No, what would you do?
Catholics would argue Anti-abortion, Pro Life.
Left wingers could argue Pro-Choice.
Childless couples could argue Pro Adoption.
But what are Pregnant scared women asking?
Should I give my baby up for adoption?
Should I have an abortion?
Should I keep my baby?
Should I give my baby a better life?
If I do give up my baby, do I want it to be an open adoption?
Those are all questions that I thank God I don’t have to answer, but unfortunately many women do. In all cases, these women need a lot of counseling to come to these life altering decisions. Not only are they making decisions for themselves, but their baby, and their family, and even the prospective parents. It’s a three or four sided relationship that can lead to great joy and great pain.
The last thing we need is another tearjerker.
I’m an emotional kinda gal, so the last thing I do is sit around and watch drama filled tear jerkers. Heck I cry at the movies, even Avengers! Hence I don’t go to a lot of movies! That is another reason why I enjoyed this reality show. Although packed with emotion, It didn’t move me to tears, but it did bring up lots of questions.
Stigma. I think the stigma of being an unwed mother in the 1950’s is gone. Even Oprah’s own sister was given up for adoption and Oprah didn’t even know it until recently. What shame did Oprah’s mother have to bear for so many years? I’m sure it was the stigma of being an unwed mother and not having a lot of resources.
The stigma that giving up your child for adoption means you don’t want your baby is still alive and well. I hope that this new show will help to squash that misconception into our next generation. The stigma that mothers WANT to give up their babies is one we still fight today, but I hope our daughter’s don’t have to. No mother WANTS to give up their baby. NONE. PERIOD. END OF DISCUSSION.
Here are the Stories of Real Women and WHY they give up their babies.
I’m married but carrying another man’s baby.
I’m young,I had a one night stand with a man who has 3 other baby mama’s and a total of 6 children he already doesn’t support. I screwed up and should have known better.
