I’m in a Vintage mood thanks to my Tide Retro Giveaway.  So I thought I would share my latest Antique Treasure.

Whether it’s a Vintage Ice Box or a Refrigerator I am really not sure.  It is however, my new Pantry for excess stockpile.   I love estate sales, flea markets, attics, garages and anywhere else that I can uncover a rusty relic, and at a local Antique Store this weekend, I found the perfect addition to my kitchen.

Growing up, my parents had a vintage Ice Box vintage ice box refrigeratorsimilar to this but the top lid was hinged and it was only about 4 ft. tall.  It represented cookies, snacks and goodies to me. The goodies inside were  out of sight, out of mind, but it was  always available for an instant treat. The bottom was used as a liquor cabinet which was again hidden to the masses but available to my parents for their instant treats.

I have searched eBay , Craigslist, AuctionZip and even Round Top Antiques fair in Texas for the elusive copy of my childhood friend.  Everytime I have found one it was either

  • “too refinished” = expensive
  • “too rough” = work
  • The prices either way were always $400 to $600.

I felt like Goldilocks looking for the perfect bed to fit me.

Yesterday was my lucky day.  I found the perfect Ice Box.  While it was not the same as I had grown up with, it is unlike any other one I’ve ever seen.  It is more like a Pantry in solid Oak. It is over 5ft tall and has 2 front hinged compartments.

It has a tag on the back that it was purchased from “The Fair” Department Store in Chicago.  So it has traveled a long way to Florida.  It matches the old carved oak chairs of my vintage icebox ice box refrigerator antiquegrandmother’s that I quickly perched next to it.  Add a little light and some Kitchen Ware and I have the perfect additional pantry space.  I’m hoping that someday when we have grandchildren they will look forward to MomMom’s treats that I will stash there for them.

The best part of this Vintage Find was the price and the location.  An antique store just 2 miles from my house AND it was only $225.00 !  I love that deal.  If you want to see what Estate Sale Finds I have for sale in my Etsy Store HERE .
