ARGH, Mate!  Grab your “crew” for a  3D adventure and walk back in the days of Pirates and Treasure in search of  The Fountain of Youth.

It is another adventure of Captain Jack Sparrow (played by Johnny Depp) and the gang.  I had the pleasure of seeing a preview of the hot new Flick  on Tuesday so that I could come here and tell you about it.  There is plenty of swashbuckling; a touch of romance, Angelica (played by Penelope Cruz) is back, and new characters to make this another spellbinding adventure!

Jack has lost the Black Pearl and wants desperately to find her.  Angelica has a special relationship with Blackbeard (I’ll let you ponder that one) and she wants desperately to find the “fountain of youth”.   All Blackbeard needs are the two silver challises, a tear from a mermaid and the fountain of youth.  That should be easy . . . right?

The mermaids are a new “beast” in this film.  I say beast because that is exactly what they turn out to be.  Beautiful, seductive, beasts that lure men into the sea only to have them never resurface.  If your child is still in the romance phase of Beauty and the Beast or The Little Mermaid, I’m thinking this is not the film for them.  It is rated PG13 for a reason.

It is also far from a historical theatrical experience.  I hope children do not come away from the movie thinking that the Fountain of Youth is found off the coast of rocky cliffs and crytal blue waters.  Although Ponce de Leon never “officially” found the Fountain of Youth, we do have the ACTUAL Fountain of Youth National Park right here in my backyard of St. Augustine. And there are no rocky cliffs anywhere in sight of the pale grey waters.

If anything ,the movie inspired us to go see the REAL Fountain of Youth if there is REALLY one.  We are so close to St. Augustine, its shameful that none of my family have visited the Fountain of Youth.  I am sure it is a “tourist trap” of some sort, but for only $10 a person it is about the same cost of the movie and they have live actors !  So, stay tuned to my blog and I’ll let you know how we make out at the Fountain, and if there is any Youth to be found.
